Ion is a standalone TAK Server appliance — no radios, no mesh. Plug it into whatever connectivity you already have (WiFi grid, cellular, Starlink) and you've got a private TAK server your team owns and controls. Built for a team-lead, FOB, or base-station role, not something you wear.

The Ion has more processing power than most out-of-the-box TAK server options, many of which run on a Raspberry Pi at a higher price — with your choice of Official TAK Server or Open TAK Server. Open TAK Server: simpler account creation, setup NATAK already has documented. Official TAK Server is a more advanced option for groups wanting to run multiple federated servers. A custom NATAK Mesh front-end makes the official server easier to manage than the command-line setup a DIY install would require.

Includes the mini PC, power supply, WiFi access point, and Tailscale pre-installed. No radios, no mesh hardware — if you need field-deployed or on-body comms, see Nucleus instead.
